Artist Statement
I explore illustration through various media and formats. The approach that ties together all my work is creating visual stories that are loose, based on metaphor and open to interpretation. What I pursue, and feel at home with, is conceiving poetic contexts.
My inspiration comes from the shapes and colours of nature, and the cycles of the seasons; the delights and challenges of motherhood; and other arts – music, fine art, literature and poetry.
The themes I explore in my work are the notion and perception of time; the meaning and importance of art; and women in society and culture.
I work in ink, watercolours, acrylic, collage, and Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate. I love to experiment to see what I can make with analogue materials and digital tools combined.
Patterns hold a special place in my heart – the colourful fabrics of my childhood, the infinite patterns of nature, of time, and life. They had been regularly finding their way into my graphic design projects, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I realised I could pursue pattern design as an art in itself. For me designing each pattern is like creating a landscape that follows its own rules and carries a story.
